Description

Las Salinas de Cabo de Gata are located in the Cabo de Gata-Níjar Natural Park. These salt flats have a rich history dating back centuries, as they were once a major source of salt production in the region. The salt pans cover a vast area and are home to a diverse ecosystem of plants and wildlife. The unique combination of saltwater and sunlight creates a perfect environment for the growth of microorganisms and algae, which in turn attract a variety of bird species. Birdwatchers can be able to spot flamingos, herons, and many other migratory birds that make these salt flats their temporary home. The salt flats are not only a haven for wildlife but also an important site for salt extraction. The traditional methods of salt production are still practiced here, with workers manually harvesting the salt from the shallow pools. You can park your vehicle at the church by the sea and visit the area by foot or bike.
